About Us

Welcome to Cumming First United Methodist Preschool, or CFUMP as we affectionately call ourselves! We are one of the most well-known private, Christian-based preschools in Forsyth County.

CFUMP, established in 1972, remains one of the oldest and largest preschools to date. Here at CFUMP, we partner with parents to provide children the very best in early childhood education and to develop them academically, physically, socially, and spiritually. We endeavor to maintain the highest standard of excellence in our teaching, our activities, and in the guidance of each child’s learning experience. By creating a network of common experiences, we hope you will feel like family!

Our program serves over 200 children, ages 1-6 years old, on a daily basis from 8:30-12:30. We follow the Safe Sanctuary policies as set forth by the UMC where two teachers are always with the class.

In addition to our academic curriculum, we offer a variety off special events throughout the year: Halloween Costume Parade, Petting Zoo, Teepees, Thanksgiving Feast & Program, Christmas Program, Teddy Bear Parade, Grandparent’s Day Program, Puppet Show, Daddy’s Day/Night, Young 5s & K Circus, Family Circus Day, Spring Art Show, Mother’s Day Teas... and much more!

Parent’s Morning Out

1-2 year olds

Parent’s Morning Out is a faith-based program in which young toddlers play, explore, and create in a safe and loving environment. Children are engaged in age and developmentally appropriate activities including story time, Bible stories, music, arts & crafts, PE, open-ended play, and outdoor play on our turf playground. We believe that the children will become independent, self-confident, and curious learners who develop social skills & express their creativity. We strive for lots of fun while learning!

Fabulous

Fours

At CFUMP, our Pre-K 4 year old program not only readies children for Kindergarten by giving them the basic fundamental academic tools they need, but also nurtures their emotional and developmental needs. Children gain independence and knowledge to succeed in “big kid” school. They learn letters and numbers, but also responsibility for supplies and classroom routines, along with learning respect towards teachers and fellow classmates. We seek to create a strong foundation whereby they develop thinking and learning skills that will guide them to their full potential

We offer a 3-day, 4-day, or 5-day option to work with the needs of all families.

Young Fives

Young 5s is the gift of another year! It is designed for those students with late birthdays or who need more time to develop & strengthen their skills before Kindergarten. Young 5s is the bridge between Pre-K & Kindergarten - building on the skills learned in 4s & preparing for the rigorous curriculum in Kindergarten. The program places emphasis on handwriting, sight words, small group & large group activities, book reports and FUN hands-on centers that guide instruction for each student’s individual needs.

Kindergarten

At CFUMP, our Kindergarten offers a full day education in a half-day program. Low student to teacher ratios means more opportunity for individual attention. Our program utilizes Saxon phonics with a focus on letter recognition, phonemic awareness, & comprehension AND Saxon math which allows students to solve problems in a variety of ways & the lessons build onto each other. There is also an emphasis on reading, social studies, and science. Instruction is done through large group and small group activities to accommodate all learners. Our Kindergartners work hard, but have FUN too! They get to enjoy PE, computer, and music classes weekly in addition to all the extra events planned at the school - Science Camp, carving pumpkins with Dads, harvest houses, Nativity building, Circus, & much more. The skills learned here help them succeed throughout their lives & begin their LOVE of learning!

Looking for a Church home?

Catholic Church Religious Building Illustration

We are a ministry, an extension, of Cumming First United Methodist Church. We work hand in hand serving the members of our congregation and the Forsyth County community. If you do not have a church home, we welcome you to visit a service on Sunday morning - we would love to see you!

The Preschool Board meets monthly to provide spiritual support, financial guidance, and business advice to all the CFUMP programs. It is comprised of CFUMC members, preschool parents (past & present), and church/preschool staff members who want to ensure the success of our program beyond our 51 years.
